Communication

Did you know that you have about 10 seconds to either keep or lose your website’s visitors? Recent studies have proven that, perhaps due to the hectic lifestyle that we all seem to live combined with the large offering of the market, visitors get impatient really quickly when browsing the world wide web. In fact, it is said that once a visitor lands on our website, he or she will only invest an average of up to 10 seconds to decide whether they like your website or not. After that your website will become the equivalent of a small paddle through which we might have driven during a journey of 100 miles; insignificant and soon forgotten.

So, what can we do to resolve this? What can we do to ensure that our visitors actually follow through and contact us? What can we do to convert visitors in paying clients? The few points below are meant to give you a general idea. Depending on your specific sector, values, geographical placement etcetera, you will need to adapt these points to make them good for you. It is however fair to say that the structure below will most definitely help you make a positive leap toward a more effective way of communicating from your website.

Please the eye

Your website does not have to be the ultimate graphic wow factor; all it has to be is clean, tidy, congruent and  professional. Avoid homemade pictures, stick to the same font and styles, choose a colour scheme and stick with it and make sure that your site looks professional. Compare it to other websites of your competitors/colleagues.

WIIFM

No, that’s not a radio station. WIIFM (What’s In It For Me) mean telling your prospects what they get out of working with you. In short this means that you must go straight to the point with benefits to your clients instead of spending parts of the precious 10 seconds period talking about your awards, ┬áskills, looks etcetera; these are important but must be put to a dedicated page instead of on your homepage.

Call to action

Tell your prospect what you want them to do. We all need to be told what to do, it’s the human nature. So, tell your prospects that you would like them to call for an initial consultation or that you would like them to click HERE or THERE. Things like “Call now for a free consultation” or “Get your FREE copy of the ‘Cash Flow Master’ here, simply enter your email and name” are proven to work. Obviously, not all businesses are suitable for this type of call to actions and so you may want to opt for more discrete ones like “you can talk to one of our expert divorce advisors by calling us on 000 000”. Either way, we must tell our visitors what it is that we would like them to do whether that is call us, email us, read an article, visit a specific page or whatever else.

Fit it to win it

Ensure that the important information is organised is such way that it can be viewed on the screen when people land on it. If, in order to see the important information, people have to scroll down, you will most likely lose some.

Get the data

This is definitely not suitable for all businesses although it is always worth considering the inclusion of a lead generation form on your website. A lead generation form is a form that allows the user to enter certain details (typically email address and name) in return of a free gift which can be an e-book, free consultation, discounted session etcetera. This is important because it enables you to collect details which you can use for your marketing campaigns in the future. Remember not all users will buy now and not all users will buy from you but most users will buy at some point. If you have their details, keep in touch with them and give them valuable information from time to time, they would be more likely to buy from you than they would be to buy from people they have not heard of.

There are many other elements, tips and ways of optimising our online presence however, although basic and simple, the above can really make a difference to the performance of your website. If you are in need of tips, SEO, a new website or simply a revamp, get in touch and we would be more than happy to help you make the most of your website.
